Old Weston Flour Mill Becomes Storage Sheds

The Weston flour mill lineage traces from the 1860s through 1919 when the Dahle brothers moved the mill near the highway and began new flour production. Earlier, builders from Logan and Weston's own settlers used local rock, a Turtle threshing machine, and a 13% James Leffel turbine to operate the mill.

Civil Defense Course Nears in Preston

A 12 hour course Prepar edness for Living in the Nuclear Age will be presented in Preston starting April 5. Supervisor James Bowlby says the four three hour sessions will be taught by Mrs. Joe Steers. The program aims to give adults a basic understanding of civil defense and the actions needed for individual and community safety. The first class meets at 7 p.m. March 5 in Preston High School Room 28. Enroll at the high school office.

Ellis Johnson Awarded Best Floor Manager

Rep Elis Johnson of Franklin county named best floor manager in Idaho House by Idaho Press club. Club awarded six honors to House and Senate members. Sen Perry Swisher of Bannock county won floor manager award in the senate.

Deadline Nears On Signup For Wheat Diversion Program

Wheat and feed grain farm operators may sign up for the 1965 voluntary program through Friday. Franklin County ASCS Chairman LaGrand Spatig said only two days remain to contact county offices and declare intent to participate. Signups end March 26. last fall signups may be revised to divert up to twenty percent of the wheat allotment.

Rotary Club Elects New Officers

Rotary Club named Harry Gamble assistant manager of the Federal Land Bank of Preston as president for 11 years. J Waller Ross became vice president, O D Robinson re elected secretary, and David E Davis treasurer. New directors include Norman Ricks Ralph DeVos Van Nov and Mayor Russell Cranney spoke at the noon luncheon about the city financials and a proposed street program.

Franklin County Wool Pool Sells 1965 Clip

The Franklin County Wool Pool Committee announced the sale of 9,297 fleeces from 103 growers to Fred Whitaker and Company of Philadelphia at 53.28 per cwt. Chairman J. R. Meek urged growers to have wool ready for shipment before June 1 1965 and to pack in burlap bags with paper cord. The committee includes Meek president Davis treasurer Roberts secretary and members Christensen Atkinson Johnson and others. bids were opened Tuesday morning in the County Agent's Office.

Preston High School to Stage Mellér Dramas This Weekend

Preston high school hosts a two night program titled Meller Drama Night featuring old fashioned melodramas Her Fatal Beauty and A Shop Girl’s Honor. Delmer Derrier notes 20 cast members will perform with a intimate set design and sasparilla and tank piano to fit the period. Proceeds fund a new recorder for the school.

County Delegation Shapes State Legislature Plan

State senators would be elected at large from a four county district including Franklin Caribou Bear Lake and Oneida Power and Bannock. Representatives at large would be elected from Franklin Queida Bear Lake and Caribou. House vote backed reapportionment while the senate debated the plan.

Fairview Woman Wins Merchant Contest at Spring Opening

Fairview resident Mrs Arvin Rawings won first prize in The Citizens Spring Opening Merchant naming contest for a perfect paper submitted early Thursday earning $10. Runner up Mrs Eldon Larsen of Preston received $5 for a late Thursday perfect paper. Third through fifth went to Wendy Lee Peterson Kristin Larsen and Gayland Taylor each awarded a one year subscription to The Citizen.

Preston High Auto Technology Receives New Equipment

Preston high school's automotive technology class gains a Ford Thunderbird 390 engine a new tune up kit and soon an Allis Chalmers diesel engine and oscilloscope. Donated engines come from Ford Motor Co and Allis Chalmers with a $1100 federal grant funding other gear.

Ward Captains Named for Cancer Crusade in Franklin County

Ward captains were named for the annual Cancer Crusade to be held in Franklin County in April. The drive combines fundraising and an education program led by L. Harvey Larsen, chairman of the county Cancer Chapter, aiming to fund research and broader program work.

Bell Named Superintendent at Grace-Bessout System

Grace-Thomas 07 Bell accepts superintendent post for Grace-Bessout system effective July. He has 10 years at North Gem School as teacher and coach and most recently as superintendent. Bell is Idaho State University graduate with a master’s degree and studied at Utah State University. He taught at Jeromé before North Gem and will replace Mr. Hare who resigned.
