City Council Hikes Library Millage and Enforces Water Bills

The council raises the library millage by one half mill to five and keeps total city mills at 42. The library gains about $10,000 yearly from the increase. The water ordinance will be enforced, turning off service for overdue charges after notice. About $8,000 is past due. A county sheriff telephony plan and fire safety inspections were discussed.

Annual Old Folks Event at Franklin Stake House

The Franklin Stake hosts its annual Old Folks Party on March 19 at the Franklin Stake House. Wallace Jensen notes a noon dinner followed by an 8 PM program. Parley Shaefer is general chairman. The dinner features fish supplied by the Franklin County Ik and Game Association for attendees over age six.

Officials Urge Unity on Motor Vehicle Reciprocity

Rep Ross Plant of Richmond urged law enforcement heads in Utah and Idaho to disseminate details of new motor vehicle reciprocity agreements to police agencies. In a letter to C W Brady Utah public safety director he asked for formal orders and for Idaho officials to do the same. He noted issues on drivers licenses and truck reciprocity and cited HB 119 enabling Utah to adopt the Drivers License Compact.

Rhonda Hammond crowned Miss Franklin County 1965 after seven contestants at Preston High School. She will represent the county in the Miss Idaho Pageant. Weber Central assigns Preston area milk service to Elwell family

The Weber Central dairy distribution is awarded to Donald Elwell of Preston and his two sons Don Bud and David. They will operate three trucks delivering Cream O Weber products from the Idaho border to Pocatello with morning pickups in Logan. The Elwells previously ran a Preston dairy for 22 years and will serve local stores and homes.

Preston Receives Federal Grant for Sewage Plant Addition

Preston city will receive a 34000 federal grant to help fund part of the new sewage disposal plant addition and interceptor lines. The grant, coming from the public beat fund, was requested by Mayor Russell Craunie with Sen. Frank Church and Rep. George Hansen confirming the allocation. The project total is estimated at 246400, funded in part by bonds approved by voters last year.

Spring Gardening School in Preston Sponsored by Extension

A garden school for North Cache Valley is set for March 75 at 1 9m in the Elks Lodge in Preston. The Franklin County Home Extension Council sponsors the event with a U of Idaho staff tour on garden trees shrubs pruning and planning. Attendees can learn about home insecticides and a session on pears berries and pruning practices.
