Atomic flash seen near Las Vegas sparks Preston locals
Preston residents report a bright sky flash seen Monday at about 6 20 a m from the south as an atomic test near Las Vegas was set off. Albert Walker of 341 East Second North described a yellowish red glare while he walked and then radioed the news. Inductees released to reserve forces and enlistees discharged are listed with names, releases dates, and medals, reflecting ongoing military staffing in Franklin County.

Cpl Jeraldis Hobbs Transferred to Korea in Third Tour
Corporal Jeraldis Hobbs, 21, of Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Co, is transferred from Japan to Korea for a third tour of duty. He has served in the Far East since April 1954 as an assistant squad leader in Company L, 34th Regiment of the 24th Infantry Division. Hobbs joined the Army in November 1953 and completed basic training at Fort Ord, California.

Preston Indians Capture Regionals In Five District Title
The Preston Indians defeated Blackfoot 44 to 21 in the fifth district finals at Pocatello to claim their third consecutive regional crown. Richard Rawlins led with 13 points, Jon Hyde added 12 as Preston extended a lead in the first half and held off Blackfoot despite late surges. The win caps a dominant regional run with Preston’s historic seven regional titles since 1942 as fans celebrated the championship trophy presentation.
