Vaughn Hawkes was elected chairman of the Franklin county Rural Youth organization to guide a 12 month program. The group will sponsor a talk meet with the theme Democracy Doesn t Just Happen a talent find with vocal instrumental music skits readings pantomimes and novelty acts grouped by age 12 18 and 18 to 28 and a Farm Bureau fun day beauty contest tied to the county fair. Prizes will be awarded and winners may advance to the Idaho Farm Bureau state convention. The Rural Youth is sponsored by the Women of the Farm Bureau of Franklin county.

Stake Conference Opens This Weekend In Oneida Area
The Oneida stake conference begins Saturday evening with open sessions. Welfare workers and priesthood leaders are urged to attend the opening. Carl W. Buehner will speak, joined by Dr. LeRoy Wirthlin of the general welfare committee. A 6 30 welfare meeting invites stake and ward welfare workers, and an 8 pm Aaronic priesthood leadership meeting will be held for stake and ward committees. Sunday sessions are replaced by a sacrament meeting in local wards to commemorate the restoration of the Melchizedek priesthood.

Howard DeWitt Swainston of Whitney received his bachelor of law degree at the University of Utah 85th commencement exercises on June 7. He plans to continue study at USC Law School focusing on labor law after six years of university work. Swainston, a Preston High School graduate, served in the Navy and completed a two and a half year LDS mission in Norway. His wife is Joyce Cummings of Salt Lake City. He was active in Franklin County music and studied music at USC.

Idaho state land in Riverdale sold Friday at 2 p.m. in Franklin county courthouse. Jean J. Smith of Riverdale was the high bidder, with D. Ray Crystal of eastern Idaho overseeing the auction. The land appraised at 4100 dollars by the state land commission and was sold for that price to Mr. Smith. It has grazing use and a possible 15 to 20 acre farming plot.

County irrigation resources tour set for June twenty second

Viehweg Youth Electrocuted Moving Under High Wires
Gere LaVon Viehweg aged 25 was electrocuted while moving to a new home under high tension wires in Ogden Tuesday afternoon. Born in Clifton on April 21 he was the son of Lott A and Adelf Moser Viehweg. He graduated from West Side High School, served a mission for the LDS Church in the east central states, and was active in church work. He was president of the first quorum of elders at his death, with brothers Joseph M Viehweg of Ogden Connie Westover Renee Viehweg Clark Marlow and Adell Viehweg all of Clifton and grandparents E P Moser of Preston and Annie Viehweg of Clifton. Funeral services are Friday at 1:20 PM in the Clifton ward chapel under Webb mortuary. Friends may call at the family home in Clifton Thursday evening and Friday until funeral time. Burial will follow in Clifton cemetery.

Maude Lessman Dies After Long Preston Life
Mrs Maude Ann Lessman aged 80 died Monday afternoon at her Preston home after a long illness. Survived by sons Horner Clifton Heath and William Lessman and several daughters and 28 grandchildren. Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p m at Webb Mortuary with burial in Preston Cemetery.
