Wheat referendum voting will occur at six communities in Franklin County. Stanton Nuffer Wins Brigham Young Scholarship

Preston High School graduate Stanton Nuffer earned a 1955 56 scholarship to Brigham Young University covering tuition and general fees for one quarter with potential renewal for a year. He ranked in the upper tenth of his class of 123 and held multiple FFA judging awards and served as FFA secretary.

Local Soldiers Complete Service Inductees Announced

Three inductees with varied armed forces records released this week by Faye Houk selective service secretary. Ralph A Hart Preston and Donald Keith Nation Preston received Army and defense medals with Korean and UN service. William I Nash Weston released from air force May 5 with Korea UN and national defense medals. Larry C Bradford Franklin enlisted in air force May 18 and Claire J Fisher Oxford became a second lieutenant in the air force April 24.

Idaho officers to attend training academy in Pocatello

Officers Don Bergquist and Arlando Larsen will attend the Idaho law enforcement training academy at Idaho State College in Pocatello from June 16 to 28. The course is sponsored by Idaho State College, the Idaho Municipal League, the FBI, and the Idaho Peace Officers Association.

Tanner Named Alternate at Girls State Each Refers to Caldwell Event

Carroll Tanner, alternate for Karen Tingey, attended Girls State at Caldwell June 4 115 Karren Tingey unable to attend due to ties and Mrs William s Tanner Weston West Side High School. Wendell H. Smith Signs Wyoming Pact

Wendell H. Smith, consulting engineer from Preston, signed a subcontract with Bar Ling Construction Co. of Ma leetse Wyo and the U S park service to furnish a four man survey crew for four summer months near the Rockefeller lodge at Moran and Colter Bay on Jackson Lake. The crew will lay out curb and gutter sidewalks streets sewer and water lines and other work in the area. A sewer plant at Chal cis and a water system at Cascade are under construction with new projects at Victor and a sewer extension at McCall.

Idaho Day celebration marks early Franklin settlement

A large crowd celebrated Idaho Day at Franklin with Lt. Gov. J. Berkeley Larsen and LDS Church official Wilford Wood delivering history of Franklin’s early settlement. The program featured music by the Carlson chorus, readings, and a grand parade with floats, ROTC unit, pep clubs, and horse riders.

George Lambirth Resigns Preston Post for Boise Highway Role

George Lambirth, longtime Preston city superintendent, accepted a position with the Idaho state highway department as supervisor for the Boise area. He came to Preston with strong backing from Morrison-Rapidson Construction Co. and oversaw major street work and other improvements. He will make his home in Boise.

77 year old pharmacist Jones formed a staff at Mel’s store. He came from Pocatello after graduating Idaho State College class of 1955. He is unmarried and plans to move to Preston after a five week ROTC summer camp.
