BYU Education Week Opens Today With 1000 Expected
Byu Education Week starts in Preston today running through Saturday with a Regional Dance Festival climaxing the weekend. About 1000 people expected to register, educators from Ricks College and Brigham Young University lead sessions on religion government homemaking and dancing to fit the MIA program. Ernest Eberhard former Preston mayor and bishop leads LDS curriculum efforts and was honored by BYU with a doctorate. A top church authority on The Three Witnesses also attends.

New Owner Takes Over Area Theater

Mormoniers Contest in Salt Lake City for Amatuer Hour
The Mormoniers competed with 21 acts in Salt Lake City for a trip to New York City on Ted Mack Amatuer Hour. They did not win but each member received 16 transistor radios and planned summer events including a Yellowstone trip. Laurie Herd was elected president with a slate of officers. Janet Jensen directs the group which can appear before organizations and ward meetings.

Former Preston Mayor Eberhard Honored by BYU Ceremony
Ernest Eberhard Jr former mayor of Preston and bishop of the First ward received a Doctor of Humanities degree at Brigham Young University graduation exercises. Dr William E Berrett presented the award while Eberhard’s career topics include dorm curriculum work and leadership roles across church schools. He was born in Stuttgart Germany and has authored books and manuals while serving in church and civic duties in Idaho Utah and beyond. The Eberhards reside in Springville Utah with six children and five grandchildren.

Eastside school district board names officers and staff changes
Dr Murray C Nichols was named chairman of the Eastside school district board during the annual organization meeting succeeding Robert Hull. Leo R Hawkes was named vice chairman and Paul C Woodward was elected treasurer Delmer Olsen was sworn in as a member of the board replacing Hull. Mrs Jack Garrett was named district cafeteria supervisor replacing Don Elwell who will be released June 15. The board tabled rezoning action pending petitions. PTA members Larry Peterson and James Tasso offered aid to improve facilities. A new elementary school building was a special concern. Lois Petty resigned as Commercial teacher at Preston high and will teach at Logan high. Paula Harris of Logan was approved as replacement. Craig Nielson was hired as a teacher. Ted Rasmussen approved as district supervisor replacing Roy Ware who retires July 1. Uncertified personnel rehired and salaries set for 1969 70. A Swan Lake Resident Celebrates 100th Birthday
John Hawes, long time Swan Lake resident, marks his 100th birthday. Six generations of his family will gather for an open house June 15 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Lava Hot Springs community memorial building. Hawes was born June 10, 1869, and his relatives include Mrs Reaves Wilhe, Harriet Denney, Clara Stone, and Mrs Kent Adamson.
