Teens Plan Franklin County Recreation Group Meeting

Franklin County youth invite at least 200 ninth grade and older teens from East and West Side districts to a 7 p.m. Saturday session in the county courthouse social hall. Organizers aim to form the Youth Movement for Recreation in Franklin County as an offshoot of a recent Preston Chamber of Commerce youth committee led by DeLoy Palmer with Danald Austin Rolen Bastian and Lyle Shipley.

County DUP Schedules Convention

The Daughters of the Utah Pioneers hold their county convention at the Franklin stake center on June 16 with Mrs. Joseph Nuffer in charge and a Salt Lake City central camp representative attending. The program begins at p.m. All county members are urged to attend and camps with the highest attendance may win an award.

Ward earns dental degree from Washington University

Charles Gordon Ward son of Mr and Mrs William G Ward received his doctor of dental surgery degree from Washington University in St Louis Missouri. He was among 130 graduates awarded degrees.

Grain Growers Name Manager Wayne Doney

Wayne Doney of Preston was named manager of the Franklin County Grain Growers and the Standard Oil Distribution. He will assume a supervisory role with the grain growers. Doney is a county native who previously managed the Implement and Gravel business in Cove and led Valley Implement for seven years.

Guard Units Train at Gowen Field in Idaho

Guard Company in Boise with Preston's Howitzer Battery and 116th Armored Cavalry Regiment participates in annual summer training at Gowen Field. Local Guardsmen arrived June 3 and will depart June 17 after firing and maneuver drills in the south base area.

Local Schools Name New Band Director

James Douglas Cox has been named head of the Preston High School instrumental music department and will direct the summer band program starting June 13. A Hoopier, Utah native and Weber State College graduate, Cox was active in campus bands and choir and previously worked with the National Cheerleaders Association teaching cheerleading. He has served as a scoutmaster and recently married Janet Gibby of Ridder Utah. He completed a two year mission to Alaska and graduated from the Ogden LDS Institute of Religion.

Grassman Tour Set For Monday At Preston

The Franklin County Grassman award tour returns Monday with a luncheon at the city recreation park Lions Shelter. Two farms remain in contention for the Grassman award with guidance from the Preston Chamber of Commerce and sponsors Franklin Soil Conservation District and Preston Kiwanis club. Kiwanis Back Drapery Show Sponsored by Preston Club

The Preston Kiwanis club sponsors a Drapery Style Show on June 13 at the Franklin county courthouse with two showings at 2:00 PM and 7:30 PM. The American Drapery Dealers association presents latest drapery styles from Los Angeles Chicago and Dallas markets. Idaho Days festival kicks off in Franklin County

Franklin county's Idaho Days runs five weeks from June 24 in Franklin with Pioneer Day, closing in Preston July 27 29 for the Jubilee. Eldon Crockett Preston Chamber of Commerce says the county birthplace of Idaho hosts reunions and events. The Jubilee is Preston’s Idaho Days contribution sponsored by the Chamber. rodeo and Pioneer Day events highlight the series with Weston Riverdale Dayston Lewiston Utah and other celebrations. Talent Winners Named By Farm Bureau

Franklin County Farm Bureau announced winners in its Talent Fund contest. Kerma Shumway, Maurine Forsgren and Bruce EUS. placed in the 12 to 16 and 17 plus groups and will advance to the district competition later this month. About 30 contestants received trophies across age divisions including Kelleen Smith who won the six to eight year group and Roxane and Patricia Hansen in the nine to eleven year vocal duet.

Lions convention draws 14 attendees in Sun Valley

At the State Lions meet in Sun Valley last weekend fourteen people attended including Mayor and Mrs. David Cutler and several Preston club members. Mr. Davis serves as club president and Mr. Acock as president elect. The Acocks won a color television in a drawing.
