Twenty four Franklin county dairy herds comprising 442 cows produced 491511 pounds of milk and 16841 pounds of butterfat for May 1957. Average 1112 pounds of milk and 38.1 pounds of butterfat per cow. Supervisor Iva Kennington notes 48 cows were dry and five cows culled as unprofitable.

Farm Accident Claims Life of Local Educator Serge Ballif
Serge Chadwick Ballif 57 of Logan died Friday in a tractor accident on his dry farm east of Whitney. The Cache Valley resident, an educator and engineer, was fatally injured when his tractor overturned on a steep slope pinning him between the steering wheel and the disc. Sheriff Ray Talbot said the mishap occurred early Friday morning and was found about midnight by his son Don. Ballif served as assistant chief of methods and standards at the Utah General Depot and contributed numerous engineering improvements. He was born November 25, 1899, at Whitney and studied at Whitney, Preston and Utah State College. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Brig.

Alma Choules of Preston represents Idaho Holstein breeders as a delegate to the 72nd annual Holstein Friesian Association of America convention in Indianapolis. He joins 178 delegates from 47,000 members in all states to shape policies and elect officers of the dairy cattle registry. The association, headquartered in Brattleboro Vermont, registered 205,527 animals and recorded 127,769 transfers last year.

Body Found Near Tracks Believed Train Fall Victim
A man’s body was found Friday about 20 feet from railroad tracks south of the community. Sheriff says papers on the deceased identify Henry Lafoy Thompson of Clarkston Utah with discharge papers and a birth date around October 15 1889.
