Commission Rejects Major Pumpers Rate Hike in Idaho Falls

Idaho Public Utilities Commission rejected Utah Power and Light proposed 185 percent irrigation rate rise at a three day Idaho Falls hearing. The order confirms a 10 percent across the board increase with a 3 percent temporary surcharge to cover facility damage and negotiated cost increases.

County hear plan on comprehensive zoning at Robinson Building

Franklin County residents may voice opinions on the proposed comprehensive plan at an 8 p.m. hearing Wednesday June 18 in the Robinson Building at the County Fair grounds. The plan guides zoning ordinances and copies are available at the county clerk’s office with work overseen by planning and zoning commission chair Glen Tanner. The hearing will include planning for Preston City.

Hansen Schedules Preston Stop and Idaho Nuclear Landmark

Rep George Hansen plans a Preston visit next Wednesday to meet constituents at 10 15 am at the Courthouse and to address the Rotary Club at noon. He will then return to Idaho for dedication ceremonies at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory in Arco for the EBR 1 National Landmark, a milestone in early nuclear technology.

Boots the cat cares for orphan pups after dog’s death

Karen Gregory’s pet Boots, a cat, has adopted two orphaned pups from her dog Princess who died in an accident last week. Boots continues nursing Tip and Prince six days after the loss, displaying canine affection.

Idaho Day Contest to crown queen in Franklin Ward

An Idaho Pioneer Day queen pageant will be held Friday June 13 at 8 p.m. in the Franklin Ward cultural hall with nine Franklin Misses competing for the title. Contestants include Kathi Wing Janet Mylorie Jan Atkinson Kathy Haworth Debbie Daley Lila Woodward Kathy Bradford Debbie Haworth Dixie Woodward. Jackie Fullmer of Logan, a former Miss Utah, will conduct a charm school for contestants. Marlow Woodward is general chairman. a parade and other summer activities are planned.

Western Days Kick Off Preston Rodeo Events Next Week

Preston hosts Western Days with a queen contest on Saturday June 14 at the rodeo arena. Merchants must wear western gear or face a verdict as a dunking booth, a Western Sale, parade, and Bicentennial Wagon visit highlight the events. Ten contestants vie for the Famous Night Rodeo title with prizes and an evening barbecue at Lions Shelter.

Trees to Go at Preston South Park Says Woodward

Preston South Stake leader Paul C Woodward said 20 to 30 maple trees will be removed from the church park to allow sunlight and grass. Crews worked Saturday along the south and east perimeters, with plans for a seven foot sidewalk and a sprinkler free three foot strip.
