Franklin County official M Evans dies at 64
M Evans 64 longtime Franklin County commissioner died Friday evening after a long illness in Preston Memorial hospital. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Oneida stake house with Bishop I Leon Forsgren officiating. Burial followed in Preston cemetery. Evans served as county board chair and was active in civic church and dairy groups. He was bishop of Riverdale ward for 11 years and did a 1906 to 1908 church mission. At death he was Oneida stake high council member and chaired the stake genealogical committee.

Robert Kulm takes over as manager of the M. H. King Co. store in Preston from Duane Sorenson who is transferred to the Buhl store. Kulm, from Jerome, previously worked in Burley and has been groomed for a firm outlying store. He has settled with his wife and three children in Preston.

Beauty registered Milking Shorthorn cow owned by Horace E Smith of Dayton sold for 620 dollars, the second highest price at Caldwell sale. County Agent Daniel Roberts said 29 head averaged 418 dollars, cows calves and springing heifers included. Smith bought two top cows, one from Erwin Atwood for 595 dollars. other consignments included cows sold to Melvin Mickelson of Grace for 470 dollars and a heifer to Bob Song of Grangeville for 355 dollars.

LeRoy R. Archibald has been appointed superintendent of the West Side school district succeeding Reed G. Anderson who leaves after four years to teach in Salt Lake City. Archibald, a Dayton resident, has farming and teaching background, served as Dayton High principal, and taught at West Side High for two years. He graduated from Preston High and earned a USAC science degree at Logan. He will start July 1 overseeing Weston Clifton Dayton grade schools and West Side High.

Soldier Wounded in Arm in Korea
Pfc. Mervin L. Johnson of Preston Franklin County was wounded in Korea on May 17. A mortar shell injury to his left arm occurred during eight weeks of front line fighting. Johnson, a machine gunner, is in a Korea hospital with details of his condition not yet known. He was born in Preston and is a 1949 Preston High School graduate. He entered the Army January 15, 1950, trained at Camp Cooke and arrived in Korea January 11 this year.

Olsen Named ISC Honor Man at Idaho State College
