Preston Night Rodeo kickoff ignites town bicentennial celebration
The 40th Annual Famous Preston Night Rodeo brings a 6:30 p.m parade each night Thursday through Saturday with an 8:30 arena show. Miss Rodeo America Connie Della Lucia and announcer Johnnie Jackson join RCA cowboys in a $8,000 prize purse, plus new acts and special programs.

Mare Shot Dead Colt Missing In Cub River Canyon
Franklin County sheriff continues investigation into the shooting of a valuable mare and disappearance of her colt in Cub River Canyon. The mare valued over 600 dollars was killed with a high powered rifle while the colt remains missing after ground and air searches. The mare and colt had been in the pasture about a week and a 250 dollar reward is offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

Fire destroys Linrose dairy barn owned by Grant Bingham
A large dairy barn at Linrose owned by Grant Bingham burned late Tuesday night. Franklin County volunteers arrived after 10 p.m. and found most of the structure enveloped in flames. Investigators believe an overheated compressor motor caused the fire with damage estimated around 30,000 dollars.

Elmo Beckstead about 60 and his son Gordon were struck by lightning while herding cattle in a pasture south of Preston near Highway 34. Elmo died at the scene, Gordon was burned and treated at Franklin County Hospital. a neighbor assisting at the scene reported no further details available.
