Famed Holstein Farm Buys Local Cattle For Illinois Herd
Elmwood Farms of Lake Forest Illinois purchased two registered Holsteins from Paul Condie of Preston. The yearling heifer Imperial Colantha Ormsley and two year old Burke Canary Colantha were bought for 1000 and 800 dollars respectively. Canary Colantha Ormsley had a 645.3 pounds butterfat production in 336 days. Condie’s herd was top in Franklin County in 1952 with 519.3 pounds fat average.

O. C. Howell, longtime owner of Western Motor Sales, died Saturday in a Logan hospital from a heart ailment after selling the business to Dale DeGraff and its renaming to Preston Motor Sales. He had suffered a heart attack soon after the sale and remained hospitalized much of the time. Funeral services were held Tuesday in Logan.
