Ticket buyers snapped up the best seats for Preston’s annual night rodeo, starting Thursday next week, with three performances. Pre-rodeo festivities include banners along State Street and planning meetings with Rotary and Lions clubs.
The East Side school district 201 hosts a two day pre school clinic for children entering first grade. North of Oneida street report Monday 9:30 to 11:30 am and in the south report Tuesday. The state board sets six as the starting age with Oct 15 as the birthday cutoff. A parent must accompany the child for examination and age proof. This is nurse Lucy Evers last major duty before her move to a Caldwell farm.
A total of 187 Franklin county and 41 Oneida county 4-H members and leaders attended the fifth annual 4-H club camp at Camp Hunt and Lakota on Bearlake. Activities included boating skating swimming a cave visit compass instruction crafts and picnics with food staff led by Lucretia Maughan and other leaders. Friday night talent program was won by the Oneida county drum and bugle corps.
Keith B Simpson of Weston and Malad, son of Mr and Mrs Charles Q Simpson, was acknowledged as the top scholar in the freshman class of the School of Dentistry at Washington University St Louis Missouri according to a USAC report.
Homer H. Budge of Boise Republican seeks the U S House seat in this district as primary ballots near. Budge, Boise resident, is Idaho native educated at College of Idaho University of Idaho and Stanford and served in navy intelligence during the war. He is grandson of William Budge and son of Alfred Budge former Idaho supreme court justice and three term state legislator.
E C Samis of New York City, director at J C Penney Company, dies reported this week. The local store closed Tuesday afternoon for the day in his honor.
Preston aims for a 10-1 win momentum as it hosts Mound Valley at 8 30 pm on the Caribou county diamond. Mound Valley, fresh off a 9 0 victory over Cornish at Weston during Pioneer Day events, seeks another upset after recent 11 9 loss to Idaho Falls and a 7 5 setback to Preston weeks earlier.
J. E. Cushman president of the Idaho State Chamber of Commerce says local chambers are doing a fine job and fulfilling their role as community spokesmen after touring southeastern Idaho. He notes progress and growing responsibility while the delegation visited Pocatello Idaho Falls St Anthony Rexburg Blackfoot Soda Springs Montpelier Preston American Falls and Aberdeen.
Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority plans a bake sale this Saturday at the American Food store starting at 9 am to raise funds for the organization’s project to purchase an audio meter for Franklin County schools. Mrs. Donna Jensen, president, stated the event aims to support local educational needs.
The Professional building formerly Persiana block on South State street is remodeled for medical dental and optometry use. A front reception desk leads to a circular waiting room with an indoor flower garden and a wading pool. Music can be played in rooms by simple knob control. Physicians Hawkes Smith Cutler Davies Merrill O K Merrill and Evans join. Dr L V Merrill will not practice in the new site. The Citizen plans to move into the building in September.
Boise leader Reilly Atkinson candidates for governor in the Republican primary urged adoption of businesslike procedures to maximize taxpayers value. He said public funds are a trust and pushed for reduced government size and cost, new industries, and higher wealth to lower tax rates. He cited Boise Union Pacific line gains as proof of civic effort paying off.

He warned of subversive elements undermining the nation and urged Idaho industrialization with power development along the Snake River. He addressed highway management, road building needs, and possible school reorganization as ongoing issues.
Local selective service board No. 21 reports no official word yet on inductions despite heightened interest and a planned resumption of drafting. Dispatches note Brig Gen John Walsh Idaho selective service director has proposed a schedule for 405 men to begin preinduction physicals on August 7 with five men from Franklin county to report in Salt Lake City on August 14.
Mrs Henry A Hatch secretary of Franklin county polio chapter and Mrs Myrl Workman representative of women s activities returned from Boise after attending the Idaho polio conference. New methods and equipment to fight polio statewide were discussed including planning, hospital care, convalescent programs and volunteer emergency efforts across counties. The two day sessions concluded with a tour of the Elks convalescent home for polio patients.
Franklin county voters face a crowded primary with 88 candidates for state and local offices. The notice lists contenders across parties for U S Senate and House seats, governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, attorney general, and more. The nonpartisan ballot includes seven candidate for supreme court and five for district judge.
The Franklin County PMA committee announces a basic 1950 wheat rate of 1.77 dollars per bushel for No 3 to No 5 grading with test weight variations. Premiums and discounts for quality will be issued soon and loans or purchase agreements depend on farm or warehouse placement.
