City police collect 884.50 in fines over two months
Over May 7 to July 7 the police department reports 884.50 in fines from city ordinance infractions. Parking meter violations contributed 188. the rest, 696.50, came from drunkenness insult assault reckless driving speeding running stop signs and related counts.

Four Local Men Reel In Huge Salmon From Salmon River
Four Preston men officials from Preston Electric & Furniture Jack Kings Estenson's Variety store manager Dennis Larson hauled four large salmon from the east fork of the Salmon river near Mackay over the weekend. Two fish measured about four feet and weighed 35 pounds while the other two weighed around 22 to 23 pounds. The group proudly displayed the prize in a deep freeze unit at the furniture store.

Five Districts Compete For County Rodeo Queen
Five district elimination contests will select county rodeo queens. Winners receive 25 dollars each and will be featured in the July 31 parade. Judges will choose the queen from the five finalists during the rodeo arena introduction.

Local softball doubleheader set for Saturday night
The Lee Hansen team of Frank lin and the Preston Elks host two exhibition games at the local ball park. Logan VFW and Lloyd's Radio shop from Logan city league travel to face the league leaders. Hansen’s squad meets the VFW at 8 p.m. while the Elks take on Lloyd's at 9. Lloyd's defeated the Elks 11-10 last Saturday in Logan. The leaders aim to even the series in Saturday's doubleheader.

McCombs 44 Dies of Sudden Heart Attack
William Thomas McCombs aged 44 died suddenly Wednesday evening at 6 o clock from a heart attack. A Utah Idaho Central railroad former employee he had helped in the Riverdale shay fields earlier that day and returned home ill. He was born October 31 1902 in Larkston Utah son of Peter E and Mary Ann Goodey McCombs and had lived in Preston twenty years. Surviving are his mother in Preston seven brothers and sisters including Ezekiel Riverdale Ariel Preston Darvel Sacramento Alma A McCombs Orient La Vella Freeman San Francisco and Phoebe Mecham Brigham City. Funeral arrangements are by Richards and Sons mortuary.

Two Alarms Reported for City Fire Department
The city fire department answered two alarms this week. The first blaze destroyed the home of Mrs. Rose Hadden on First East and Seventh South streets last Thursday afternoon, heavily damaging belongings. The second fire at Paul's cafe occurred Tuesday early morning with only smoke damage and minimal effort needed to control it.
