Areas Set for Wheat Quotas Referendum July 23

County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation officials announced voting locations for the 1960 wheat quota referendum. Areas include Community A Thatcher Cleveland Treasureton. Community B Mink Creek Glencoe Riverdale. Community C Winder Banida Oxford. Community D West Side High School for Clifton Dayton Weston Linrose. Community E Palmer Motor Implement in Preston. Voters with over 15 acres in 1960 are eligible, except those in the 1959 program, and two thirds support is needed to keep quotas and penalties. If not approved, quotas lapse and price support drops to 50 percent parity.

Queen Contest Saturday Night At Rodeo Grounds

The Preston Boots and Saddle club hosts a free queen contest Saturday at 8 p m at the Preston rodeo grounds. Six more contestants entered by Wednesday include Jackie Valentine Paris Idaho Gloria Freeman Georgetown Linda KellHer Mink Creek Rita Keller Oxford Darlyne Longwill Pocatello and Joan Nash Georgetown.

Riverdale Community Sets 24th Celebration

Riverdale plans its 24th community celebration at the church grounds last week. Activities begin at 10 a.m with a float entry option, followed by a program at 11 and lunch at noon. From 1 p.m. games and races, a fish pond for children, and an afternoon softball game are planned with a refreshment stand available.

Swensen To Attend National County Officials Meet

Cleo L. Swensen Franklin county auditor and recorder will attend the National Association of County Officials 23rd annual conference in Detroit Michigan starting July 24. He serves on the urban area committee among nine standing committees. The event features Gov. G Mennen Williams and Detroit Mayor Louis C Miriani among speakers and runs five days with six panels and official business including elections of officers and directors.

District Road Show To Be Held July 25

The district road show for the five stakes including Bannock Portneuf Benson Oneida and Franklin will be held at Preston High School on July 25 at 8 p.m.

Fenton E Larsen Earns Degree From Michigan State University

Fenton E Larsen son of Mr and Mrs Fenton A Larsen of Preston completed a doctoral degree in horticulture at Michigan State University. He previously served as district FFA president and state FFA reporter at Preston High School and Utah State graduates studied under Dr J C Ballard and Dr L H Pollard. He will join Washington State College in Pullman as a horticulture department post on the staff with wife Renac Buxton and two children.

Carter Foss Completes Army Supply Course

Pvt. Carter Foss son of Mr and Mrs Ezra Foss of Preston completed an eight week general supply course on June 26 at Foss Ord California He entered the Army reserve six month program last February and completed basic training at Fort Ord He is a 1955 Preston High School graduate who attended the University of Utah power context shows his age 22 years old

Preston Firestone Service marks first anniversary

The Preston Firestone Service at 2L7 South State celebrates one year with a two day event on Friday and Saturday. Manager Jack Garrett announced the promotion featuring three grand prizes worth 24.95 each, free balloons, a Minuit perfume giveaway for ladies, and a free lubrication with every oil change. The shop will sell Firestone tires gas and oil and offer on site auto repair by a mechanic. Garrett, a former Preston resident, is married to Karma Rallison. his parents are Mr and Mrs William Garrett.

Local Whitneys Judy Hull Wins National Contest Prize

Judy Kay Hull age 17 daughter of Mr and Mrs Harold Hull of Whitney wins a $50 savings bond for guessing the number of consumer entries in a Kimberly Clark national contest. Ellis Johnson manager of Johnson Drug places second in district and receives a $2.25 savings bond.

Rex Allen to Headline Preston Famous Night Rodeo

Rex Allen the film and TV star will headline a three night stand at the Preston Famous Night Rodeo from July 30 to August 1. The Preston Chamber of Commerce reports top stock and nightly parades at 6 p m with queen contest and attendants, plus Von Weber County Posse performances and caravan events. Tickets go on sale at rodeo headquarters in the First Security Bank building.

Fathers and Sons Outing Planned by Stake Officials

Stake officials plan a Fathers and Sons outing at Preston city recreation park on Monday July 20 from 6 30 to 7 30 p m for 500 boys and their fathers. Activities include volleyball softball baseball and horse shoe pitching starting at 7 30 with a program at 9 followed by refreshments. The entire recreation park is reserved to allow all who wish to participate.

Weed control progress in Franklin county history

Franklin county agent in charge DeVere Tovey reports that all noxious weeds along the railroad right of way in Franklin county were sprayed during the last week of June. A 1956 survey showed patches sprayed since then with good progress toward elimination. Cooperating groups include the State Highway Department, county commissioners, canal companies, and several local irrigation groups.
