1954 Rodeo Queen Selection Set for Preston Event
Fifteen to eighteen young ladies entered the contest to be Preston night rodeo queen. The program begins 8 o’clock Saturday at the rodeo arena with entrants from Preston and neighboring towns. Western dress is invited. tickets go on sale Monday. two western attire items are required for contestants. Spectator prizes include a saddle, bridle, blanket, rope from the Preston Boots and Saddle club, and a gold tone horse and saddle trophy from Thomas Saddlery. Genial Cy Price former Idaho secretary of state and 1964 Republican governor candidate visited friends in Preston yesterday. A Malad native who owns a Oneida county farm has spent four years as administrative assistant in U S Senator Henry Dworshak’s Washington office. He said the experience was great and he enjoyed work in the capital and with the senator. He sent best regards to those he could not meet through THE CITIZEN.

William M. Baker Dies at 63 in Preston
William M. Baker 63, of 284 South First Preston, died Wednesday at 11 a.m. after a two month illness. He had been in the veterans administration hospital in Salt Lake City for 10 days. Born February 2 1881 in Fork Vale Tennessee he was the son of John and Lucy Meltabarger Baker. He married Veda Pratt August 20 1925 in Soda Springs. He had resided in Preston 22 years and previously lived in Nevada and Salt Lake City. Funeral is Saturday.

Riverdale ward organizers announce a full day of events for July 24 including a patriotic program at 11 a.m. with Dr. Newell Davies, lunch, races for children and novelty contests, square dancing, acrobatics by LaDawn Porter, girls softball at 2:30 p.m., men’s football, and an outdoor dancing jam at 9 p.m. All activities occur on church grounds with refreshments available.

Howell Completes Second Phase of Basic Training at Fort Bliss
