Committee chairmen of the Preston chamber of commerce were announced at a Monday board meeting. Ariel Neeley was named merchants committee chair. R C Affleck heads advertising. March Hopkins oversees national affairs. Merlin Smith chairs programs and recreation. Joyces Nine Year Old Dies of Diabetes and Flu

Joyce Jorgensen nine year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Victor Jorgensen of Preston died Wednesday at the hospital from diabetes complicated by influenza She was born November first 1943 in Rupert The family moved to Preston when she was a year and a half old She attended Jefferson school Survived by parents one brother Norman in the US Navy at San Diego a sister Carol Jean and two grandfathers Pete Jorgensen of Preston and Ivan Woodward Sr of Franklin Funeral at 2 pm Saturday in the seventh ward chapel Friends may call at Webb mortuary Friday evening and at the family home 153 North State Saturday from 10 am Burial in Preston cemetery

Preston High Indians undefeated in league play

The Preston High Indians extended their season, remaining undefeated in league play at five wins and no losses. They toppled Malad Dragons 60-37 on Friday at home, while junior varsity lost in overtime to Malad JV. The Redskins then defeated county rivals Westside Pirates 67-32, using a height advantage to overpower the smaller Pirates. Continued on page 4.

John Deere Day Draws Large Preston Crowd

John Deere Day was held in Preston on Friday drawing a large crowd of farmers and their families. Armold Sant and Lee Bergquist of Preston Implement Co. hosted the event starting with a luncheon at 27 North State and ending with a movie program at the Isis theatre.

Historical U S papers shown by bank to students

The First Security Bank presented 42 historic U S documents to East and West Side school districts for study. The Freedom trains circulated the papers, including the Declaration of Independence and Gettysburg Address, along with other records from battleships and ports.

West Side polio program aids March of Dimes drive

West Side High School hosted a March of Dimes presentation led by Mrs. Bert Sutton and a representative from Franklin County. The event occurred Wednesday afternoon in the ward recreational hall during a West Side-Malad game and featured four county officers, the junior and senior high students, and two polio victims on crutches. A blanket-toss collection raised 34 dollars with participants including Quinten Crockett Preston Bright Owen Balls and county officers overseeing the drive.

Dunkley Geis Lands Lead Role in Outward Bound

Dunkley Geis of Preston earned a lead role as Tom Prior in the three act drama Outward Bound to be staged at Ricks College Rexburg February 12 to 14. Geis, a junior active in music and drama, recently wrote music for the junior prom theme song and helps plan student activities.

Bank presents Freedom Train documents to county schools

Lloyd Hogge of the First Security Bank of Idaho delivered copies of Freedom Train documents to Supt. L R Archibald of West Side district 202 and Supt. W H Simmons of East Side district 201. Both superintendents thanked him and said the materials would be given to teachers for classroom study to stress Americanism and heritage in Franklin County schools.

Licenses Available For Dogs and Bicycles

Dale Allred, chief of police, announced licenses are now available at the police department office. He urged boys and girls to obtain licenses quickly for bikes and asked dog owners to license pets to aid recovery if stolen.

Adolph Rudy Jorgensen announced he is operating a new blacksmith shop in a cinder block building with all new equipment at 35 Preston Ave, half a block west of the Pete Jorgensen shop. He has spent his life in blacksmithing alongside his father and brother and knows every phase of the trade.

West Side Pirates Triumph Over Malad 58 45 at Dayton

West Side Pirates defeated Malad 58 to 45 on their home court in Dayton last Monday. T. Conley led Malad with 16 points while Clair Williams and Morris Helmandollar scored 15 and 14 for West Side. Wiley Callister added 11 for West Side and Paul Sears returned to score eight.

District judge Isaac McDougall, 1892 born Malad Idaho native, died Saturday in Elko Nevada from injuries after a car crash near Po catello. A prominent figure in fifth district legal and civic affairs, he was well liked by peers and citizens alike.

Market Prices at Cache Valley Auction Co Sale

Auctioneer Leland McLing reports cattle prices with Holstein and whitefaced cattle showing top bids. Bulls and feeder pigs brought 14.50 to 15.75 per head and 17.50 per pound for feeders. Lambs, ewes, and stock calves also traded, with horses around four cents a pound.

Silver Star Awarded to Local Marine in Korea Action

Lt Homer Johnson of Preston is cited for conspicuous gallantry during a July 23 1952 Korean War patrol. He directed an assault on a fortified position exposed to heavy fire while locating a missing comrade and later led a patrol to recover the body. His actions earned the Silver Star and he was promoted to first lieutenant last December. His wife LaRae and their young daughter visited his parents in Preston this month.

Peterson Tractor announces new salesman and territory

Douglas O. Crookston joins Peterson Tractor Service sales force, covering the south half. L Weber Jr of Preston is appointed to the boards of trustees for the Crippled Children's Society of Idaho in Franklin County. Clifton M men win stake basketball crown at Oneida

Five stake basketball teams competed in a single elimination tournament at Oneida stake. Clifton M men beat Preston seventh in the final to claim the crown. Stake Conference Starrs Schedule For Weekend

Visiting LDS authorities from Salt Lake City will preside at the quarterly stake conference this weekend. Stayner Richards and LéRoy Wirthlin will join church leaders for sessions beginning Saturday evening at 6:30 with a priesthood meeting to follow, and General Sessions at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sunday.
