Bear Lake key in flood control and irrigation system

Utah Power and Light President E. M. Naughton notes Bear Lake storage reached 49,000 acre feet in December, 64 percent above prior highs, with three upstream reservoirs doubling inflow to release. The Bear River watershed, spanning Utah and beyond, is highly regulated to store flood waters for irrigation and conserve surplus for dry years. The system supports flood control across about 6,000 square miles as the river crosses state lines five times.
