End of an Era as Opera House Falls and Pigeon Leaves
A pigeon clung to the opera house roof as the old building was torn down Monday for parking and facilities. The crowd recalled church meetings, boxing, plays, basketball, National Guard sessions, and graduations held there. The Daughters of Utah Pioneers note the hall built after 1892 with later 1898 and 1905 incorporations, the Preston Opera House company aiming to found an amusement hall with capital stock set at 10 000.

Jeanette Choules of Preston High School is named 1965 Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow after scoring highest in a senior girl homemaking exam taken December 1. Franklin County ASCS Office announces sign up for the 1965 feed grain program from February 8 to March 26. The voluntary program combines corn, grain sorghum and barley into a single base with diversion payments and price support loans. diversion allowed from 20 to 50 percent or up to 25 acres, with two payment rates and higher rate if diverted percentage reaches 40 percent or more.

A former Preston resident, Melvin Harris, son of Mr and Mrs Melvin Harris, earned a Department of the Air Force nomination for the Arth ur S. Fleming award. Harris, chief of the Traffic Branch at Hill AFB, led transportation efforts for Minuteman deployment and achieved 996000 in cost avoidance in 1964. He lives in Ogden and serves as Bishop of the Terrace Fifth Ward Riverdale Stake, married to Verla Bright.
