Magistrate System Begins in Franklin County

The county adopts a statewide magistrate system replacing local justices. Mrs Edward Davis serves as Franklin County Magistrate with a remodeled courthouse office and probation staff. Dimissed local posts include Howard Bennett justice of the peace Floyd Palmer city judge and Loyd Lewis probate judge.

Roper Receives Crop Growers Award Amid Service noting

David K Waker of the Plant Science Department reads a citation praising J J Roper for leadership in canning crops and farming groups. Roper is lauded for mutual benefit decisions benefiting farmers and processing companies and for long service as county official and community leader.

Blackfoot Man To Manage Bank In Idaho

Michael B. Krantz was named manager of First Security Bank in Preston Idaho replacing Ted Greer who resigned. Krantz born in California and educated in Shelley Idaho is a 1961 Brigham Young University graduate and has held roles at First Western Bank and First Security in Moscow and Blackfoot. He is married to Judy Eastwood of Long Beach California and has four children.

Licenses Suspended in Caribou and Franklin Counties

State law enforcement suspended eight drivers licenses in Caribou and Franklin counties. Franklin county suspensions include Kenneth R. Henderson Wayne L Jepsen Gordon D Anderson Roland J Chatterton Thomas V Ransom and Gary L Oliverson for issues such as proof failures and future proof. Caribou county suspensions include Connel D Lowe and James F Bedingfield for DUI and point accumulation.

Preston Area Chamber of Commerce Banquet Set

The Preston Area Chamber of Commerce annual meeting will be Jan 2 at the Robinson community center. Guest speaker is F R Bromley marketing manager for Mountain States Telephone. City Denies Water To Outside City

The Mond city council voted to halt new residential water hookups outside the city until a new water source is obtained or pressure is increased. The council adopted the uniform state beer law, discussed RC&D district inclusion for Franklin County, approved $150,000 for city expenses, set a holiday schedule, delayed a HUD grant application, banned street parking on State Street and Oneida Street between 2 am and 6 am, and denied Grant Smith's water damage claim from a snow plow.

Eastside School Board to Study New Elementary and Mill Levy

The Eastside school board approved starting a study for a new elementary school with three members from each zone and called for a mill levy election in March to transfer existing mills rather than add new ones. The plan moves funds between maintenance, debt service, and Plant Facilities to reduce the district rate and fund a new school within seven years. the board also approved bus purchase, insurance, another road project, and foreign language aid efforts.

District Offers Adult Education Classes in Preston

The Eastside School District will start an adult education program in Preston led by Superintendent Dr. Orson Bowler. About 25 courses will be offered at $10 to $12 per week, covering topics from American literature to science and electronics. Signups will determine whether classes proceed.
