Merchants Plan Two Day Dollar Saving Event in Preston

The Preston business community launches a two day Dollar Saving event on Wednesday and Thursday March 2 and 3. Five thousand two page circulars with about sixty ads promote bargains across furniture autos groceries hardware and more. Hundreds of shoppers are expected to visit both days for big savings.

County Herd Improvement Group sets 1954 butterfat record

Franklin county dairy herds reported an average 429.2 pounds of butterfat per cow for 1954, with 33 member herds testing and 304 cows completing a 12 month record. The association averaged 11,811 pounds of milk per cow and 3.63 fat per cow, while 93 cows were culled and 33 members used milking machines.

Preston Aberdeen Meetin Tournament Opens in Pocatello

The fifth district basketball tournament begins tonight in Pocatello with Snake River vs Malad at 5:30 p m Downey faces Blackfoot at 7 Preston meets Aberdeen at 8:30 and Pocatello battles Montpelier at 10 All games are in the Pocatello High gym West Side High School Franklin County’s other team had a strong season but failed to qualify for the tourney Pirates were edged by Snake River this week for a district berth.

One Day Weed School Set for Tuesday in Franklin County

County Agent Daniel Roberts announced a one day program on weed control at 2 p m Tuesday in the basement of the Franklin County courthouse. Howard B Roylance extension agronomist for the University of Idaho will review weed control findings from Idaho and western stations and discuss water management for canals and irrigation ditches. He invites business groups selling weed control chemicals, spray operators, canal company groups and farmers of Franklin County to attend any phase of weed control.

New Farmers Union Chapter Presented Charter

Fred Anderson presented a charter to newly elected Farmers Union members in Weston recreation hall. Officers elected were Bryan Bergeson as president Cyril Lowe as vice president and Ted Rice as secretary treasurer Jerome Evans Idaho state director conducted the meeting. Jesse Tuttle Utah Farmers Union president spoke on family type farming parity and the union's goal to stabilize living standards amid growth and economic cycles.

In the parliamentary procedure contest Montpelier placed second and Fielding third. West Side’s team includes Lyle Henderson chairman Stephen Bastian Jay Schwanveldt Billy Taylor Alma Winward and Allen Hildt. Jay Mack Holbrook won the public speaking district title. state contest set for April in Nampa. Fire at Woodwards Injures Three Men

A blaze at the Cecil Woodward and Sons farm last Thursday morning injured three men. Paul Woodward suffered second degree burns to his face and hands, Boyd Woodward was burned on the face, and Cecil Woodward was overcome by smoke and ill for days. All are treated at the Preston clinic. Ivan H. Woodward will teach in Paul Woodward’s place in the preree school for an indefinite time.

Franklin county hosts the largest Scout and Explorer swimming course to date with units from many areas participating.
