The Franklin county grade school basketball tournament starts Friday with the first group of teams playing at Franklin. The second group competes Friday at Whitney, Feb 27, and the final group will play at Dayton Friday, March 5. Teams include Dayton, Franklin, Weston, Soview, Riverdale, Mink Creek, Whitney, Thatcher. Couple Meets Death on Coast in Auto Crash with Grandson
Former Preston residents Mr and Mrs Ellis Wallace and their young grandson Lloyd Eck perished in a Sunday auto collision near Stockton California. A second car passenger died and two others were injured while Mrs Eck a premature infant died shortly after birth. The crash was caused by a driver failing to stop at a sign. fires followed the impact.

Agriculture Leaders Address Farmers At Institute Opening
Dr. D Theophilus head Idaho college of agriculture extension service told Franklin County Farm Bureau institute opening that farming is big business and needs close contact with organizations. He said experiment stations develop new varieties control pests and anticipate problems to keep soil rich and farming profitable. He urged refering to station results rather than risky experiments. About 152 attended as the program opened with Ned Stocks and prayers, praising the bureau’s growth from 172 members in 1946 to 311 today.

The Civil Aeronautics Administration announced a three year plan for Idaho to improve 64 airports including Preston Municipal. Total cost 5.979 million dollars with 3.226 million from the federal government and 2.753 million from local sponsors. Construction includes 45 class one airports 1800 to 2700 feet and eight class two runways 2700 to 4700 feet plus seven seaplane bases. Larry Kerr, Preston high school senior, earned a U S Naval Academy appointment after a January 19 exam in Pocatello. Sanborn announced the selection to ensure fair qualification. Kerr, son of Mr and Mrs Elmer Kerr of Fairview, excelled in math and science and contributed to football and wrestling at Preston High.
