The cafe in Preston will close on Monday for renovation and repairs. The cafe will be redecorated cleaned and new improvements added during the weekend.
Mrs John B. Dursteller of Whitney will present The Desert Song with Paul Fontaine in the role of Captain. The performance is scheduled for February 9 and 10 at Preston High School.
Orland Ci Mayero of Idaho Power Co visited Preston to discuss an industrial survey and potential new industries. He spoke at a noon Rotary lunch and met county officials, chamber members, Ferm Bureau representatives, and Lions in special sessions. The meeting concluded with plans to complete the Preston Franklin county survey to aid industry growth.
Farmers are urged to apply in writing to their county ASC committee by February 15 to be considered for wheat quotas for the years 1953 1954 and 1856. Those with no wheat seeded in any of those years must submit applications.
Annual jamboree at the Franklin County High School venue will host voting for new directors and officers. District No 2 candidates Jedn Bowles and Clifford Whitehead. District No 3 nominees Kenneth Oliverson and Orval Moser. District No 4 nominees William Condie and Bud Bennett. President nominees include the incumbent Buzzy Forsgren and A L Snowy Stocks. vice president nominees Deward Gambles and Bruce Lowe. secretary-treasurer nominees Richard Tufts and Dell Smith. Past presidents list spans Milo Wheeler to LL Forsgren.
City officials announce immediate removal of parking meters on Preston street business strips for repairs. The ten year old meters are described as badly in need of fixing and a trial basis will determine if they return after repairs. Mayor O Sherwin Webb stated the council voted Monday night to proceed with removal.
Tickets are on sale for Preston High School’s annual opera The Desert Song scheduled for February 9 and 10. The Franklin County Fish and Game Association plans its annual bigs feed carnival dance and prize giveaway. The event, at Preston High School cafeteria and gymnasium, is expected to draw 500 to 1,000 people, with prizes worth hundreds of dollars and a long list of regional sponsors.
In a proclamation issued today, Mayor Sherwin Webb proclaims the week of February 6 to 12 as Boy Scout Week in Preston. The proclamation urges citizens to recognize the patriotic service of the volunteer scouts and notes coverage of Boy Scout activities and award winners in this issue of The Citizen.
Sheriff Ray Talbot was hospitalized this week after an appendectomy performed Sunday night for acute abdominal pains. His wife Mrs. Talbot said he is recovering nicely and may return home today, though she could not be certain.
Sixteen year old Spiie Anne Simmons of Preston Idaho wins junior sewing crown in the ninth annual Make It Yourself with Wool contest earning a top national prize and a Singer sewing machine. She and state senior champ Arma Huschke of Payette attend the National Fashion Revue in Fort Worth as guests of the Wool Growers Association.
In recent years, parents and students reported active involvement by music students in school programs. Elias Jepsen of Mints Creek is named among the participants.
A Franklin district review boards its scouts and explorers led by Richard Porter and others. Troop 286 Franklin ward members include Paul Woods and Richard Porter who earned merit badges in the Bridger hike. Council review by Alfred Kern recommends ranks for 1955 expedition participants and leaders.
Land owners Ernest and Walter Beutler along the west rim of the Five Mile channel east of Dayton have tightened a diking system and dams to form a large reservoir on farms. Engineer Lt. Winsor from Salt Lake City designed the flood control works diverting water from winter snows and storms. The Five Mile committee led by Tom Heath oversees the drag line, dozer, and carry-all work with Daniel Roberts as secretary.
The program includes short talks on opportunities in scientific careers for youth today led by F. Nielsen and Ronald L. Bingham, high school math and science instructors. Principal Elmo A. Keller will discuss junior high curriculum changes. Musical numbers featured. PTA in charge.
Grand theatre manager Jim Ward confirms extensive upgrades including new paneling lighting and seating. A larger concessions bar offers Finch and Judy drinks and a hot butter popcorn machine, drawing positive comments from patrons.
Railway of Riverdale report notes a collision injuring two people, including 64 year old Otis Neeley. The injured were taken to hospital for treatment as authorities continue investigations.
