The feature outlines 50 forecasts on general business prices taxes retail and foreign trade labor deficit financing farm outlook stock market real estate and politics. Babson known for accuracy delivered an 87 percent average over 15 years.

Polio Committee Sets March of Dimes Meeting Plans

Franklin county chapter of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis held a planning session at the courthouse with reports from Mrs. Henry A Hatch and Mrs. Myrl Workman. Gaylord Larson noted a Dec 6 Boise meeting and officials warned of a looming five million dollar national debt and over 30 000 old cases plus new ones at year start urging a March of Dollars effort.

Franklin county hog pool earns $8906 from 53 325 pounds

In the Franklin county hog pool held Wednesday of last week 215 head was shipped to Fred J Hill and Son at Burley. Combined weight of the hogs was 53 325 pounds and they brought a total of $8 906 23. Of the 215 hogs 146 were sold as choice for 17 95 cwt bringing 5 678 48. The next pool will be held Wednesday Dec 20 with this coming Saturday as the last day of listing.

Sunday Blaze Destroys Chicken Coop Killing 180 Hens

Fire at the home of Charles Ransom, north of Preston, destroyed a chicken coop and about 180 laying hens. Auto control failure believed to start the blaze discovered at 3:30 AM by city patrolman Rulon Winger. Firefighters could not save the coop due to water shortages. estimated loss about 2000 dollars, with partial insurance coverage.

Dr. R L Smith a local physician was elected president of the Preston chamber of commerce at a breakfast meeting of directors. Joseph H Bowcutt Jr was named vice president with officers to take over at the annual dinner in January.

Indians Take Close Battle as They Roll Over North Cache

The undefeated Indians edged North Cache 28 28 in a closer than expected game last Wednesday. Crawford scored 10 to lead Ev Sorenson's squad with Johnson of North Cache the top scorer for his team with eight. North Cache fouled more than the locals 15 to 6. Coach Sorenson plans a Utah trip to Grantsville and East High in Salt Lake City.

Penney Company To Pay Year End Bonus To Full Time Associates

J C Penney company announces a special year end payment equal to two weeks pay for all full time associates who served the full year 1950 and proportionate amounts for extra and part time staff. Over 50 000 associates nationwide will participate including 32 Preston store workers. President A W Hughes notes the payment reflects 1950 results and future payments depend on later results.

John William Bench Dies in Preston Ward Leader and Genealogist

John William Bench died Wednesday at 1:25 after a long illness. Born August 31 1873 in Logan he married Mary E Allen in the Logan LDS temple October 19 1896. He moved to Preston and was an active LDS church worker including organizing the Winder ward and serving as ward teacher stake superintendent Sunday school and on the Oneida stake genealogical committee. Survived by sons John E and Lyman R Bench Seattle Washington daughter Ethel Holt Salt Lake City Neta Dockstader and Leon J Bench Preston 12 grandchildren two great grandchildren and brother Frank Bench Cornish Funeral services Monday at 1 p.m. in Preston third ward chapel with burial in Preston city cemetery. Friends may call Richards and Son mortuary Sunday afternoon and evening and at the Dockstader home Monday morning.

Jaycees Promote Holiday Poster Contest Across Preston County

Jaycees sponsor an annual holiday poster contest in Preston County. East Side and West Side schools participate with judging by a college art director next week. Pupils at Jefferson to Present Operetta

Jefferson school fourth through sixth graders will stage the operetta Surprise, Christmas on December 21 in the school auditorium. Husband of Local Girl Completes High Altitude Flight Course

Lt. Marvin C. Davies USNR son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Davies Idaho Falls and husband of Marie Neeley Preston completed a refresher high altitude flight course at Naval Air Station San Diego. He rode in a low pressure chamber simulating 70,000 foot conditions to test oxygen equipment and pilot limits before exposure to high altitude flying. He belongs to an aircraft squadron in the U S Pacific Fleet.

Idaho Liquor Store Burglary Yields $1143 in Cash and Goods

A second break in at the Idaho state liquor dispenser on West Oneida, Preston, occurred over the weekend. Thieves pried open a rear door transom and escaped with about $1,143 in cash receipts and a small amount of merchandise. fingerprint work yielded no clues. Store Manager Jesse Johnson discovered the theft Monday morning after an early opening. Police have few leads as they review the scene and await further evidence.

Citizen Receives Publicity Award for Voter Outreach

The Preston Citizen earned the Good Citizenship award from the American Heritage Foundation for publicity promoting the voting is everybody's job program.
