Two trustees with three year terms to be elected two from precinct 3 and two from precinct 4 with incumbents Robinson and Perry.
Preston Supply company and Ken's Electric sponsor a welding clinic at the Preston Supply store. A Mid-States Welding representative demonstrates a new process called Helearc using electricity and gas to produce a smooth weld. The event runs all day with invitation to all interested attendees.
Idaho motorists are urged to slow and watch for children as school resumes. The Idaho State Automobile Association notes police and safety patrols will aid, but drivers must treat every child as a potential caution sign to prevent traffic tragedies.
A Preston man Corporal Ernest L Moore USAFR 220 W 2nd North has been recalled to active duty with the United States Air Force. He has been assigned to Williams Air Force Base Chandler Arizona as one of many air reservists recalled to active duty.
A benefit baseball game is planned to support Lamar Perkins. The Preston first ward ball team sponsors the event with two games on Friday night at the city ball park. The first feature pittsburgh bishops versus franklin bishops at 7 30 p m then an all star game to follow with proceeds going to Mr Perkins.
Preston high school starts football Monday against Burley at the city park under night lights. Bleachers from the rodeo grounds boost seating, and new white and blue uniforms appear. Coach Oliverson projects a well rounded team after scrimmage, with key home and away games listed for September through November.
Keith Hirschi won the state truck drivers safety contest. He has driven a small semi truck and trailer with no accidents in 2 1/2 years and will travel to New York on September 26 to compete in the national contest at Madison Square Garden.

Sydney Ann Gibbs nine year old daughter of Jack and Grace Gibbs faced polio at the Caribou county fair. After treatment she rode a pony and exercised with a Holstein heifer under supervision. She recovered enough to exhibit and won first place in her division with the Holstein heifer.
Game Warden L Dean Davis announced hunting hours for mourning doves in Franklin Power and Oneida counties. From September 1 to 15 the daily season runs 524 AM to 705 PM with daily opening time about one minute later and closing about one minute earlier. Bag limit is ten doves per hunter.
Preston High School begins its new school year on Tuesday September 5 with junior and senior registration at 9:00 a.m. in the auditorium followed by freshman and sophomore registration at 1:30 p.m. A $10 fee covers book rental and student body dues. An auto mechanics class for sophomores is added to meet demand.
Oneida stake groups including M-men Gleaner girls Junior M-men and Junior Gleaner girls plan an outing at Dowata resort on Wednesday September 6. They will meet at Preston third ward chapel at 7 PM with transportation provided. After swimming a program and luncheon will follow, then dancing. attendees pay their own swimming ticket.
Corpl Ray O Roberts of Preston is serving in Korea with the Fifth Air Force. He previously arrived in Japan on July 26 and was promptly transferred to Korea for duty after completing 35 months of air force service.
A young man died and another was injured Friday when a car overturned seven miles north of Preston on the Grace road. Leo Rasmussen Jr of Grace was killed, passenger. Lavar Caldwell driver, was taken to Preston hospital. The 1949 sedan skidded 38 feet, rolled, then skidded 17 more feet before settling on its top. Sheriff Lee Hansen led the investigation with Coroner M Hancey and other local officers.
Registration for Jefferson school begins with new students from Preston system reporting to the principal. A $1.50 registration fee covers activities and a weekly reader. fourth to sixth grades meet in the Jefferson building on the second floor and register in their room with the teacher.
Franklin county assessor Marlow Funk reports a definite rise in vehicle licenses from 1949 to 1950. Passenger car plates rose from 2816 in 1949 to 3205 in 1950, farm truck plates from 687 in 1949 to 812 so far in 1950, private truck plates up 39 213 in 1949 and 252 in early 1950, commercial trucks up slightly. He urged returning 1950 plates to the courthouse office and noted a $2 filing fee and possible 90 day delay for duplicates, with both plates required to be displayed.
Superintendent W H Simmons reports painting repairs and upgrades across district schools including Jefferson Mink Creek Banida Whitney Franklin Winder and Fairview. Heating plants upgraded central and Fairview, new dining areas and equipment added, lunch price remains 18 cents. Two new buses ordered, fleet to reach eighteen. some routes slightly adjusted.
Twelve men from Franklin County are slated to depart September 18 for induction at Fort Douglas after passing physicals August 14. Clerk Blanche Hollingsworth said the group fills the August county quota, with 12 named inductees including Odell Alder Andrews and Charles Ray Davis. A subsequent physicals group of 21 is scheduled to leave September 5 from the same hotel at 5 a.m.
Paul Johnson of Johnson's Drug Store was hosted by W. A. Sheaffer Pen Company in Fort Madison Iowa on the Mississippi River for a week long sales clinic. The program included films lectures and group discussion with tours of Sheaffer factories in Fort Madison and Mount Pleasant and meetings with company executives including Cc R Sheaffer H E Waldron and others.
