Preston and Montpelier Chambers Plan Intercity Meeting

Preston Chamber of Commerce members led by A. L. Stocks met Monday with a Montpelier group at the Montpelier city hall to discuss a joint event about Franklin county highway concerns. Attendees included William P. Shumway, Elmer C. Jensen, Reed Lowe, and others as both sides agreed to a Friday evening gathering on September 9 with a short program and a social dinner to foster neighborly ties.

Bear Lake County Fair Opens With Rodeo August 24

The Bear Lake county fair and rodeo run August 24 to 27 in Montpelier with a RMRA professional show at 28 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. Olsen and Teving supply stock, Malone the clown, Cooper the bullfighter, and Ray the announcer. A parade of contestants and Bear Lake rodeo queen precedes each night’s events. A tri state exhibitors open gate marks first time.

Eastside Schools District Board to Hold Sept 6 Election

Eastside school district reports that the annual meeting and election for No. 201 will be held Tuesday Sept 6. The term of office for the trustee position, held by Dr. C. Re Cutler, expires. Nominations must be by five qualified electors from zone 5 and submitted to Sarah G Johnson, clerk, by Aug 31. Polling at Jefferson School from 1 to 6 pm.

Local Center to Open Friday Morning

Lincoln Orme, supervisor of the Franklin county canning center, announced that the local center will open Friday morning at 8 o'clock for the rest of the canning season. Operations paused for two months due to boiler installation delays. Parking is limited by High school campus construction, with signs to direct patrons. Appointments to work at the center must be made by calling 212-W.

Horse Pulling Feature At Franklin County Fair

Franklin County fair schedules a Friday night horse pulling contest at 8 under lights. Three weight divisions include lightweight up to 2700 pounds, middleweight 2700 to 3000, and heavyweight over 3000. Police Arrests and Incidents Reported for July in CA

Police Chief Harold Campbell released a July report detailing eight automobile accidents and multiple citations. The document records four stray dogs killed, 559 meter violations, 41 parking tickets, and 559 arrests for drunkenness and disturbing the peace. Additional arrests include assault and battery, fighting, burglary, petty larceny, and shoplifting with some held in Preston. several out-of-county officers assisted.

In Fairview park on Aug 11 the Mapleton ward girls beat Fairview 38 to 19 to win class B division while the Franklin team defeated Fairview 8 to 5 in class A to capture the championship. Weston lost 2 to 0 to Fairview and placed third in class B.

Franklin County Fair Prepares for 1958 Event and Judging

Preparations for the 1958 Franklin County fair are under way with final touches on August 25 for 4-H junior exhibits and August 26 for open class dairy displays. Clyde Me Wadell of Palo Alto will judge the 4-H hand exhibits. notes mention Chester Mink of Pocatello as livestock appraiser and other officials will grade hogs cattle and lambs.
