Preston City Advances Water Pipe Land and Street Paving

Preston City council met in a special session to approve buying an 18 inch water pipe for about 70 000 to extend the water line and purchase land for 6000 to create an entrance to the city garage Heber Swainston’s parcel on One Half North First West. The Second East Street between First and Second South near school property will be paved in exchange for use of the Eastside School District pool for summer recreation. The council set a 400 sewer connection fee for the new high school addition and discussed a preliminary plat for a trailer park and two way radios for the city. They also will consider the county deeper sewer system and noted a letter from the former consultant Wendell Smiths attorney about potential damages from his termination.

Preston Gets Airline Loses Union Pacific

The Idaho Public Utilities Commission granted Union Pacific a plan to dualize the Logan and Preston offices, closing the Preston agency after a 30 day notice. Key Transportation, Inc announced twice daily passenger cargo air service to Preston, Montpelier, Logan, Tremonton and Brigham City with limited permission. schedules show arrivals 9 10 and 5 51 near 9 15 and 5 56.

Schedule Change for Franklin County Fair 1975

The Franklin County Fair shifts the 4 H and FFA Horse Show and 4 H Sho Dee from Friday to Tuesday as part of the Bicentennial Wagon Train program. Lee Bergquist urges attendees to review the revised schedule and participate Tuesday through Saturday August 19 to 23.

Lyman W Merrill Appointed Preston Postmaster

Lyman W Merrill, longtime Weston postmaster since 1968, is named Preston Postmaster under the US Postal Service program. A Weston native, he leads the Idaho Branch of the National League of Postmasters, holds an accounting degree from LaSalle University, and is IRS certified with 280 hours of Post Office management training. He and wife Norma have four daughters Tedra Balls, Jill, Meridee McDermott, and Molly, a West Side High sophomore.

High School Bids Under Consideration and Staff Updates

The school board reviewed bids for the new high school addition and state's approval for a swimming pool. A band instrument rental night is planned for August 19 in Preston. Several staff changes include new bus drivers, cooks, secretaries, and an English teacher. West Side High's coach Kohn Smith was named Idaho Class A-3 Coach of the Year in football and led the Pirates to a district title and a league basketball crown.

County Land Mistake May Cause Headaches

A 16 year error in Franklin County land records, found last month, concerns a half acre in Dayton mis sold for taxes in 1963. County attorney J D Williams says the mix up could lead to court. Mrs Eula Olsen of Elko Nevada refused a $2000 offer for the land and county commissioners ordered Williams to arrange.

Utah Youths Arrested for Marijuana Patch Cultivation

Two Cache County juveniles aged 16 and 17 were arrested by Franklin County deputies after 24 hour over four day surveillance uncovered about 42 marijuana plants in Weston Canyon. They offered no resistance. deputies described ongoing investigations and potential additional arrests. The case links to land deed history and a 1940 transfer to Mrs Olsen, with further county actions pending. A dance and music event is planned at Preston South Stake parking lot Friday night at 8 30 with Expressway from Ogden. admission is 1 dollar.
