1860 Restored Again AUC By Local Guard Work

The 1860 monument near Mt Smart was restored by the Franklin County National Guard company at Wr Robinson's request. Seven sections of calcite rock were placed, aided by 40 workers over about four hours. The monument stands 37 feet high and 20 feet wide, built with cement lime and local rock, and required 12 men and three teams over two days.

Preston Area Chamber Plans Annual Summer Party

The Preston Area Chamber of Commerce sets its annual summer party for August 27 in the city recreation park with Dick Joiner as chairman and Clair Rosen as chamber board representative. The date was approved at the board's Tuesday meeting. The rodeo committee announced D A Swanny Kerby will again ride in next year’s rodeo.

Child Killed When Car Hits Horse Near Bud Bassett Farm

Two and a half year old Scott Condie died when a northbound 1965 Ford hit a black horse on Highway 24 near the Bud Bassett residence. The child sat between his parents, died on arrival at Caribou hospital. Sheriff Marriott investigated. The accident followed horses escaping a field and entering a lane. Scott Condie, born January 20, 1969, leaves parents William K Condie and Gayle Smith Condie and one brother Gene. Grandparents listed. LDS hospital patient Idonna Condie of Thatcher noted.

Hansen to Visit County Aug 13 for Meet and Breakfast

Rep Orval Hansen will make a no host breakfast at Pop n Pins in Preston at 7 am on August 13. He will then be at the courthouse until 9 am to meet residents and discuss problems or issues with him.

First Bank joins Idaho banks in prepaid hospital plan

Lestard O Thomipson of Blue Cross of Idaho says First Bank and Trust of Preston now offers a new prepaid hospital protection plan with automatic premium payments. Franklin County Hospital Administrator Dean Painter commends the bank for extending this service to Franklin County, noting a growing network of progressive loan banking institutions.

Prestor Night Rodeo nets big gate receipts and top prize

The Prestor Night Rodeo capped a long weekend with gate receipts up over last year and a $3000 purse funded by the Chamber of Commerce. Top money went to AY. Grieve for Bull Riding with $411.60 to Keith Hasler for Saddle Bronc and other winnings to Bill Kennedy and Wally Wickham. Two acts were quarantined and replaced. Rainy forecasts and ticket defunding affected attendance on Friday while Thursday and Saturday crowds showed improvement.
