Springates festival set for Preston Whitney and Frantin schools

The annual Springates program will be held next week in the Previn gymnasium at 8 90 pm. School groups from Preston Whitney and Frantin will perform dances Lani Sticks May Pole and marching, with a string orchestra led by Mrs Wayne. The program opens with The Star Spangled Banner and includes patriotic gypsy and other songs ending with Idaho. Students will perform on autoharp bells piano guitar and accordion. Foss Furniture adopts Crown Oak line reviving oak as furniture wood.

Bond Sales Rise in Franklin County to 17 Percent

U S bond sales in Franklin County rose to 3173 in March, totaling 11596 for the year. County bond chair Ted E Steers says the goal is 67320, an increase over last year.

Group To Attend Legion Convention in Blackfoot Saturday

Preston post of the American Legion and Auxiliary will be represented at the Sixth District spring convention in Blackfoot on Saturday. District commander Hewitt Hawkes of Downey and district auxiliary president Mrs. Jennie Norcutt of Grace lead the delegation.

City Council names supervisors and park staff

The city council appointed Jay McKenzie to supervise the recreation park. Tanya Parker and Ingrid Hedin joined Mr Biggs to assist in swimming activities and Leonie Hulet was named to oversee the city park.

Bishop Named for Preston Third Ward in Utah Stake

Harry Gambles assistant manager of the Federal Land Bank of Preston was named Bishop of the Preston Third Ward on Sunday succeeding Alonzo Handy who moved to Ogden. Wayne R. Brown and Leo C. Geddes were named counselors while Niles Monson and Verian Gun were named ward clerk and one of the seven presidents of the seventies in the Oneida stake. Brown is principal of Central Jefferson and Eastside School District explorer leader. Geddes heads Motor Merc in Preston and led elders quorum. Monson of Kings Store in Preston is Sunday School supervisor.

Memorial planned for local Medal of Honor winners

Preston Cemetery commissions hosts leaders to discuss a memorial honoring two Medal of Honor recipients killed in battle. Nathan Van Noy Jr. saved lives by holding off a superior force, and Leonard Brostrom attacked an enemy strong point. A campaign to gain public support will begin soon at the 1892-established cemetery site.

Murder Suspect Returned From Cache County Jail

Arlo Gene Briggs 36 was booked in Franklin County jail on a first degree murder charge after extradition from Cache County where Charles Briggs was arrested in Weston on February 10. Govs Samelson Ramp DM approved extradition. Briggs received a 10 day bail extension request by Justice Howard Bennett. Briggs requested time for an attorney and was held without bail pending Monday appearance.

Swenson Named To State Group

Cleo Swenson Franklin county auditor was named a member of the Idaho Traffic Safety Commission this week. The appointment expands Idaho traffic safety representation across counties with Swenson serving on the commission.

Twin Lakes Fishing Season Opens Amid Closures

Twin Lakes Limited opens season at Palisades Reservoir near Swan Valley and the Oneida county reservoir. Access is restricted with dangerous conditions reported on AR streams entering the reservoirs. Fishing allowed only up to the high water elevation as water levels fluctuate.
