Eastside School District voters approve a 200000 bond to add shop and band classrooms wrestling room and related areas at Preston High School by a slim margin of 1.0 percent. Total ballots 9851 with 576 yes. 270%o unaccounted. two-thirds required, bond passes.
RaNae Petersen an 18 year old Preston High School senior won Miss Franklin County in a Preston Lions sponsored pageant before a 700 plus crowd at Preston High School. She portrayed a medley on the organ and wore a light blue gown with a turquoise swimsuit. First runner up was Tamera Porter and second runner up Heidi Hale. The event served as a preliminary to Miss Idaho and Miss America competitions.
A former Preston mayor and four ex councilmen pressed five questions about the firing of Wendell Smith the city consulting engineer. They questioned funding access and the switch to Forsgren Perkins, urging answers at the next meeting. Smith showed a final bill of 46 746 and the council planned to respond. The group also discussed an annexed trailer park project and a theatre incident involving a child and R rated films.
The Preston and Dayton LDS Seminaries will hold a four year graduation on Wednesday May 21 at 8 pm in Preston High School auditorium. Dayton Seminary members will present a drama before diplomas are awarded by stake presidents Paul Woodward and Robert Geddes. Details of the program are being planned by Courtney Moser and James Rawlings and will be announced later.
About 150 women from five counties will attend a day-long Southeastern Idaho District Homemakers Council meeting next Wednesday in Preston at the Robinson Building fairgrounds. Theme is Be Alive in 1975 with sessions on food and baking, money market, and emergency heat candies. Registration is 50 cents, luncheon registration via the county home extension office with a 2 325 fee.
Two men were treated for injuries after a Tuesday evening drinking social at Glendale Reservoir. Hal Keller suffered head bruises and arm injuries, David Woytke received arm cuts, both stabilized. Samuel Joseph Handy, Franklin County's oldest resident, died at home in Franklin. Funeral services are planned for Saturday. Authorities continue investigation into property damage at Keller’s pickup.
