Preston residents voted to incorporate the Preston Golf and Country Club and elected 12 directors to steer the project. The group, including Dr. Leo HK Hawkes and J. Clifford Forsgren, later attended the YMCA Youth Legislature in Boise with 204 students.

Preston High Dominates Fifth District Music Contest
Preston High School swept superior ratings at the fifth district music contest in Blackfoot attracting about 200 competitors. Under Lyle Shipley and John Manning, the Acapella choir concert band boys chorus orchestra and girls chorus earned firsts. Superior honors went to senior boys quartet senior girls sextet vocal solos piano solo and multiple instrumental ensembles. The state music festival will be held in Idaho Falls on April 24 and 25 with district superior winners eligible to enter.

Dayton Youth Injured in School Bus Accident
Rodney Jensen seven year old Dayton first grader was injured while transferring between buses at West Side High School. He slipped under the rear wheels of the second bus and was run over by a dual rear wheel. He suffered a broken pelvis and a severed kidney tube. He was hospitalized in Salt Lake City after initial treatment in Preston and is reported improving after surgery. His parents remain with him in Salt Lake City.

Preston High School's track team won its third consecutive meet at the fifth district invitational with nine schools competing. Preston led team scoring 6735 points, ahead of Soda Springs Montpelier Paris Snake River Malad North Gem Grace and West Side. Lions Art Show Set for Preston High Wednesday
The Preston Lions club hosts the annual art show next Wednesday in the high school gym. Students from Preston and West Side High Schools will display woodwork leather and fiberglass pieces. On Beckstead Farm in Franklin county the first planting of park oats and latar orchard grass occurred April 7 as part of a countywide trial. County Agent Daniel Roberts noted 1200 pounds of foundation park oats and 60 pounds of latar orchard grass were secured from the University of Idaho experiment station at Aberdeen.
