The message urges all members of the stake presidency high council ward bishoprics and stake auxiliaries to attend the missionaries meeting opening Saturday at 8 p m General sessions begin thereafter and emphasize Melchizedek priesthood holders and stake missionaries participation.
Glen Christensen of Preston earned a $2650 fellowship for advanced study at the Merrill Palmer School in Detroit. The Utah State Agricultural College graduate completed his master's in 1955 and will study human development and family relations, focusing on the relation between SES and attitudes in Logan. He is the son of Mr and Mrs ig tat Christensen.
The county health officer announced this week that polio vaccine is now available for children ages four through seven and for pregnant women at no charge. A physician fee of two dollars will be charged for administering it while other individuals may obtain vaccine privately at three dollars.
Breston Larsen of Utah State has been awarded a graduate assistantship at Michigan State. He will complete his horticulture bachelor’s degree at USAC next June and will receive a stipend of 1850 dollars, per Dr. L He Pollard head of USAC horticulture.
The central Committee of Benson and Smithfield districts will hold a Saturday powwow for junior leaders at the Lewiston third ward chapel. Plans call for 10 am start with ceremonies and discussions, area troops to display scouting skills, ice cream and lunch to be served, units to bring supplementary food, senior patrol leaders and junior leaders invited, adult leaders may accompany.
Conservationist Jack Harwood reports the Bear River drainage shows a favorable outlook as a second dry month follows snowpack that remains high. Despite dry spring forecasts overall runoff in the Bear River watershed is expected to be 8 to 32 percent above normal with soils wetter than in recent years. Water from Cub River Mink Creek originates from springs fed by high elevation snow remaining above normal, suggesting good supply though a dry spring could alter the outlook.
Carlson reports singers won an invitation to perform a quarter hour program at the National Federation of Music Clubs convention in Boise May 3 to 5. They will join the combined choruses in the Mozart Requiem under a guest conductor. Local support from chamber of commerce and civic groups funded the trip after 18 years of availability.
G W McCune owner of the Ford agency explains pride in receiving the Ford 4 Letter Award for 1955. The award honors dealers who outperform competitors and emphasize service as a core goal. Ford division credits McCune Motor Co. for outstanding leadership and community trust in motoring service.
A large cast of 55 from Utah Power Light will perform the light opera Show Boat at the Preston High School auditorium Friday at 8 PM. Proceeds benefit the Fourth Ward building fund, with tickets sold by ward members and strong hopes for a capacity turnout.

Gordon Cranney of Cranney Chevrolet, after returning from San Francisco, was elected chairman of the San Francisco meeting and chosen to represent Pacific coast dealers at the Detroit gathering set for April 24 to 26. Eight dealers will represent 43 zones across the United States with over 7,000 Chevrolet dealers in Detroit. The session will discuss extended management and related topics.

Preston city council approves temporary downtown parking restrictions through Saturdays and the day before holidays. Police install warning signs as meters are removed, enforcing one hour limits on State Street and Oneida Street with fines starting at $1 per violation.

About 1150 students participated in the Boise music festival held April 26 27 28. Vocal soloists Darrell Jepsen Tony Beckstead Neal Durste Her Connie Jean Afflécle and Bonnie Boden earned first ratings. Piano soloists Karen Wells George Foster and Elizabeth Owen also received first ratings. The high school orchestra led by John Bell also achieved first ratings, with transport arranged by bus.
Utah Power and Light will honor three Preston residents among 84 longtime employees at the 19th annual veterans club party in Salt Lake City. Roy A. Sorenson receives a 25 year pin, Eugene Dalton and LeRoy Lindsay get 20 year pins. E. M. Naughton, UP&L president, will present at the Hotel Utah dinner where George M. Gadsby will address members.
Evelyn Edgley will portray Joan of Arc in Preston High school's two performances of Maxwell Anderson's drama Joan of Lorraine. The production, staged in the high school auditorium, features Alan Waterlaus as Jimmy Stasiers and Leon Deeksister as the cat? stun with other cast members named.
Thomas Heath a prominent businessman and longtime leader in Idaho beet sugar circles will be honored Monday night at a chamber of commerce dinner in Preston. Weldon Nash and Rulon Dunn announced the event, noting Heath’s 30 years as vice president and general manager of the Franklin County Sugar Company and his state political service. He rose from field worker to factory superintendent and has served on many industry committees, often traveling to Washington.
The Girls League sponsors a Girls Day event on April 20 at Franklin Stakehouse featuring a sand show for men and daughters and a dance at 8:30 p.m. The day’s theme is It’s a Woman’s World with activities planned by high school girls.
The 11 year old woman from Horseshoe Bend Boise county Mrs Hannah Hagebak Hoff has been named Idaho's mother of the year. Among the finalists was Mrs W R Fisher of Oxford Franklin county. A committee of Idaho Hall of Men chose the winner from four finalists named by Lorenzo Hansen Shelley and Stephen of the Idaho semites of American mothers.
