Al Koch Named Principal of Preston High School
Alfred Walter Koch, 37, named principal of Preston High School by Eastside School District’s board. He comes from Rawlins Wyoming where he was assistant principal and curriculum coordinator, and he taught at South Cache Junior High in Hyrum. He holds a BS and MA and is pursuing a doctorate in education at Utah State University. Koch and his wife Karen Brower and their children will relocate to Preston. he replaces Onan Mecham who retires May 30. Koch will be hired daily starting June 1 and full time August. He was born in Hilden West Germany in 1937 and immigrated to the US in 1954, later serving as LDS church bishop in Rawlins and holding leadership roles. He envisions teamwork in education and plans to review school policy at a noon April 22 shoplifting discussion at Pop n Pin Lanes. He has held various teaching, administration, and advisory positions in Wyoming and Utah institutions.

Runaway Juveniles Caught After Multi-State Car Spree
Cache County Utah authorities hold two runaway girls, 14 and 15, linked to a two state stolen car spree. They stole a vehicle in Logan, then a 1974 Mercury in Clifton, bought gas in Preston, and led Jerome police to a Bennett car later tied to a Dayton high school hit and run.

Spindler Construction Co of Logan was the low bidder at 491000 for a new LDS church house in Fairview. The total project cost is 555000 with final approval by the church finance committee on the 15th and groundbreaking planned soon after. Fire damages $30,000 at Banida ranch barn
A fire of undetermined origin destroyed a barn on the Thomas Cattani ranch in Banida last Saturday night. Volunteers fought flames from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. as 50 tons of hay and equipment were lost. neighbors contained the fire from spreading to a neighboring shed.
