Consumer agency hurt by vote by Nader claims

Washington UPI report notes a House subcommittee rejected an 8 to 3 amendment pushed by Ralph Nader to broaden a proposed Consumer Protection Agency. Nader said the panel weakened a key provision of the bill as the agency would serve as the voice of consumers before regulatory bodies and federal agencies, with limited power to investigate complaints. The Rosenthal amendment would have expanded intervention into formal rule making and other proceedings.
