Hoffa Aide Confronts Senate Panel In Hoffa Testimony
Carrol Roosevelt Spencer held his 2 year old as he faced police for two hours in Elizabeth City after claiming a bank account was forged and money was misused. The incident tied to Hoffa and the Central Conference involved a $5,000 withdrawal and questions about Teamster funds used to buy vehicles to deter delivery of new cars. The standoff ended with no harm to the child and Spencer later fatally shot himself. Hoffa defended actions, saying the car purchase was to protect jobs and could be called a loan.

Plane Victim Insurance Pay Refused
The Examiner reports an insurance firm refused payout on a policy for demolition expert William Payne among 44 victims of a mid-Pacific plane crash last November. Payne, 41, of Yreka California, had bought three life policies totaling 145000 in the weeks before the Pan American four engine flight from San Francisco to Honolulu. His body was not recovered. A CAB report on the crash is pending. Elliott Seymour, Payne’s attorney, said a suit would be filed against the insurer.
