A Los Angeles man Samuel A. Rivas 64 told Superior Court Judge Arnold Praeger he saved 170000 in fruit jars buried in a yard and sought half the sum 142000 from Conchita Fauvet of Alhambra claiming it as a joint asset from their planned marriage. Fauvet denied the amount and said she received 59500 as a gift and learned he had been married. She testified he claimed to be widowed and living with a sister. The wife died last year and she ended their relationship. He also claimed a $50000 check for property should have been joint title but she kept it in her name. He described varied jobs and said he came from Alaska in 1924 and kept the jars in his yard.
