Tougher Smog Laws Due Soon
Cal Resources Board chairman said new stricter air quality standards will be set this month as the board meets on Sept. 17 to review recommendations from its Technical Advisory Committee. Dr Haagen-Smit praised progress since 1950 in smog control though not evident to all and forecast 85 percent of smog from new cars will be curbed by tighter standards. He noted used car emissions remain a serious issue and a possible control system is technically feasible but costly and unlikely to gain public support.
