Los Angeles Teachers Plan Mass Walkout Over Pay
Los Angeles teachers in 650 schools were urged to stage a mass walkout and protest march two days after the new school year began. The Association of Classroom Teachers representing 19,200 of 24,000 educators said members will not report next Thursday and will assemble at Dodger Stadium for a 10 a.m. march to the downtown school district offices. Nonmembers, students, and parents were invited to join as the district faces pay raise talks. The board has offered 5 to 6 percent, while teachers seek 14 to 23 percent.
