Doctor admits addiction to chess and his vast collection
Dr Richard T Street of Rossmoor admits an addiction to chess though he no longer plays. He owns about 900 chess sets accumulated over 23 years, spanning many nations and styles. Notable pieces include a 3 foot Gettysburg cast iron set and a handcarved Isle of Lewis replica now in the British Museum. Street notes Russia lacks unique sets and describes whimsical pieces like an Alice in Wonderland set and a Napoleon era arrangement. His family remains active in chess teaching and play.
