Popeil Murder Trial Defense Called Ridiculous by Prosecutor
Los Angeles prosecutors in the Eloise Popeil and Dan Ayers murder conspiracy trial depict defense claims as ridiculous while detailing the case chronology. Deputy District Attorney Peter Bregman portrays Ayers as a gold mine who soaked in a luxurious lifestyle until July 1973, and notes Eloise Popeil as shrewd and crafty in a tense courtroom sequence. The defense contends the accused planned no murder, but the prosecution lays out maps and testimony linking the couple to a scheme starting December 17 with phone calls to a hit man and a supposed remodel that replicated a Chicago floor plan.
