Old Market Ad And Weeps A Tale Of Prices Long Gone
A reflective piece recalls a long vanished era of market ads and cheap staples. The narrator, addressing Gramps, contrasts 1940s price points and free lunches with today’s costs, noting beef cuts around 29 to 48 cents a pound, bread at 8 to 14 cents, and jars of peanut butter at 14 cents, while lamenting inflation and changing times. The piece weaves memory, nostalgia, and social shifts around a two page archival ad.
