Plan to Stop Viet Shipping Charged
Union leaders say a conference called by Sohyo would discuss a plan to interfere with transport to the Vietnam war zone. They urged the President and Defense Department to review foreign-flag and foreign-seamen usage on U.S. vessels, including ships under Panama and Liberian flags, and to tighten security checks. The telegram stressed that many ships are manned by foreign nationals and could extend beyond Vietnam's sea lift.

New 4,100 Man Army Brigade In Vietnam
A 4100 man Army brigade arrived in Vietnam to bolster the buildup ordered by President Johnson. About 3600 infantrymen from the 198th Light Infantry Brigade landed at Da Nang and moved to Chu Lai as part of the American Division. An advance party of 500 prepared a base camp from Fort Hood, Texas where the unit was formed in May. The move is a partial fulfillment of the August decision to add troops, with total U.S. strength in Vietnam reaching about 468,000. Further brigades and support units were expected to follow as the president plans additional increases toward 525,000 by June 1968.
