Supervisor Kenneth Hahn on Thursday named Leslie Shaw, executive vice president of Great Western Financial Corp., as a potential candidate for the county assessor job left vacant by Philip Watson. Shaw is a former Los Angeles postmaster and longtime member of the Society of Residential Appraisers.

From Our L A Bureau Supervisors extended for eight months a ban on new adult entertainment operations in Los Angeles County unincorporated territory. The ordinance blocks opening new adult book stores massage parlors and sexual encounter centers within 1000 feet of residences or similar operations.

No contest plea filed in Seal Beach road deaths
Cerritos man Michael W. Gramme entered a no contest plea to felony manslaughter charges in Santa Ana Superior Court for the Oct 13 1976 deaths of Edmund Lopez Jr and Kenneth Sage in Seal Beach. Sage a tow truck driver assisted Lopez whose stalled car was hit on a transition road from the San Diego to the San Gabriel Freeway. Police and CHP arrested Gramme at the scene.
