Humphrey Reaffirms Viet Stand
Vice President Humphrey reaffirmed the administration's pledge to withdraw U.S. forces from Vietnam once the war ends and violence subsides. He said there are no aims for American bases or a large force and bases would be handed to a sovereign Vietnamese government when aggression ceases. He stressed containment of Communist China and China-Soviet relations while urging Democrats to reexamine conscience if they oppose Johnson’s reelection due to the war.
