Sohio criticur hits council on inaction in Long Beach
A Long Beach citizen critic, Frank Springer, attacked the City Council for inaction on the proposed Mandant Oil of Onto tanker terminal. He accused officials of failing to investigate and inform themselves of the terminal’s pros and cons, while Councilman Wallace Edgerton said much time had already been spent gathering information. Councilwoman Rene Simon emphasized emission tradeoffs and air quality, noting the council reserved the right to revisit the issue after a June hearing and that the terminal could face a veto when harbor bonds are issued.
