Deportation ordered for man who renounced citizenship

Thom as Glenn Jolley, 24, a Greensboro native now in the Atlanta area, was ordered deported after a September hearing. He renounced U.S. citizenship in Toronto in 1967 and may face removal without a known destination. Jolley previously worked at Emory University’s legal aid office.

Flames Kill One Three Missing at Park Terrace Hotel Fire

Darlington police report one death and five guests still unaccounted after a blaze at the Park Terrace Hotel. Twenty one guests were registered. the body was found hours later and identity was pending. Firefighters expected major searches to continue into late today or Thursday as smoke hampered access. Officer Bobby James, on duty at 4:30 am, said he heard a scream and witnessed heavy smoke from the hotel as rescuers woke guests on the first two floors.

Park Ride Faces New Charges

Former Los Angeles recreation and parks commissioner Mel Pierson, 44, was indicted on four counts of bribery and one count of soliciting a bribe related to city contract awards. He already faces two conspiracy to receive bribes and three bribery counts over zoning cases, and is free on $250 bond. A bench warrant was suspended until 11 am Friday as his attorney seeks to dismiss the earlier indictment.

At Camp Pendleton an outbreak of spinal meningitis has reached the staging battalion processing Marines for Vietnam duty. Pvt Kent Johnson was diagnosed Tuesday, the fifth case this year at the base, with prior cases limited to the 2nd Infantry Training Regiment.
