Builders Urge Johnson to Release Housing Funds
Larry Blackmon president of the National Association of Home Builders asks President Johnson to release at least 250 million of the billion dollar special fund to the Federal National Mortgage Association. The aim is to construct about 15,000 housing units for low and moderate income families with an average loan of 16 600 per unit. He suggests a 29 unit limit per builder per metro area to expand home building under tight credit. The Commerce Department forecasts easing by mid 1967 but 1967 starts may still total 1 050 000 to 1 150 000 units.
