Reactor Vessel Put On Backwards At Southern California Plant
San Onofre officials disclosed a 420 ton nuclear reactor vessel was installed reversed in one of two plants near the Pacific. Project manager Orlando Ortega said the error, found last week, will not alter operation dates as fuel rods and components are realigned. Construction at the San Onofre site, cost estimated at 2.5 billion dollars, involves Southern California Edison and San Diego Gas & Electric. The NRC said initial review cited a communications problem between designer Combustion Engineering and Bechtel Corp.

California Attorney General Byelle Younger says she will file a friend of the court brief in Fresno in support of suits against Interior Secretary Cecil Andrus.
