Price Hike for Credit Cards Set
Seattle restaurant operators plan a 5 percent service charge on credit card purchases starting after January 1 as a reply to rising card discounts and six week payment waits. The move, debated at a Pacific Coast regional meeting, faces criticism from Diners Club and may foreshadow actions in other West Coast cities and by major railroads. Washington State Restaurant Assn officials note the strain from accepting 7 percent discounts while card commissions go to a national agency.
