Cochran Named Assistant DA in Los Angeles

Johnnie Cochran will leave private practice to become assistant district attorney in Los Angeles, replacing Andrea Ordin who moved to U.S. attorney. Storm Brings Rain to Northern California and Oregon

A Pacific storm fringe pushed into Oregon and northern California with rain. 2000 Acre Brush Fire Destroys Land Near Los Angeles Beach Homes

Firefighters battled a rapid blaze in the Santa Monica Mountains that scorched about 2000 acres after flames spread from a dump. Slaying at Long Beach Home Shocks Couple

An 84 year old Long Beach man, William Ross, was shot and killed in his home by an armed intruder early Tuesday. His wife Ida Ross was also wounded as she fled through a door, sustaining a graze wound to the head. Police describe the suspect as a tall, thin black youth between 18 and 20, wearing light clothing, who entered the residence earlier and remained unseen as detectives investigate if anything was taken.

Plane crash off Newport Head leaves two dead

Driver identified tentatively after Lakewood crash and fire

An 18 year old Lakewood man, David Robert Baird, is tentatively identified as the driver killed when his car collided with a heavier vehicle on Lakewood Boulevard north of Del Amo and burst into flames. Positive ID awaits dental confirmation. the car was registered to him and he has been missing since the crash.
